Vai Palm Beach (Finikodasos)

The largest natural palm forest in Europe!

Beaches Vai Palm Beach (Finikodasos)

Vai palm beach or Finikodasos is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Crete as it is the largest natural palm forest in Europe with 6000 palm trees.

The beach is located north east of Crete at a distance of 26 km from Sitia town and 93 km from Agios Nikolaos. The palm beach belongs to the Toplou Monastery which is situated 12 km before the beach.

One of the theories of how the palm trees grew is that Arab pirates docked their ships at the port and threw the seeds of the date palms they ate on the ground hence the forest was created.

Tip: Climb up the stairs to the right side of the beach and after a 15 minute hike, you will come at the next beach called Psili Ammos which is a lot more private than Vai however just as beautiful.

Parking Fee: 2.5 euro all day
