A must-visit enchanting monastery!

Home Churches & Monasteries Saint George Selinari Monastery

The monastery is located on the National Road between Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos. The tradition says travelers must stop at the monastery when passing by in bid of good luck.

Even though rather busy, the monastery is quite peaceful and offers beautiful views of the gorge, as well as shadow during the hot summer months. The first church was build by a monk named Nikolaos from Rhodes, which build the church after finding the icon of Saint George there.
