The Old Venetian harbour of Rethymno is situated north of the city and dates back to the 13th century where it was used as a trade port by the Venetians and later on by the Turks.
There is a beautiful preserved lighthouse at the edge of the harbour reachable by a short walk. Fishing boats docked around the coast add up to the tranquil atmosphere of the Venetian harbour. Also numerous restaurants and cafes are located around the quayside.
Tip: Hang around at the breakwater until the sun goes down for a magical sunset!
