Matala has it all!

Beaches Matala

Located 75 km south-west of Heraklio, Matala has pretty much everything. A beautiful beach, a picturesque village with plenty of shops and restaurants and the famous Matala caves.

Matala became very popular during the 1960s when its caves were occupied by hippies. And to this day the village of Matala maintains this “hippieness” visible to the restaurants and shops around.

Matala has also a long beautiful beach. Paid parking is available close to the beach but you can park pretty much anywhere around the village.
